Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

The Sycamore Township Fire Department is responsible for delivering emergency medical care to nearly 21,000 residents daily, in addition to our 30,000+ visitors, business customers and employees. In 2013, our department responded to nearly 3000 medical emergencies. Our goal it to provide the best medical care possible. Staffing up to three ambulances daily, we offer quality ALS (Advanced Life Support) care 24 hours a day from our two fire stations. Through continuing education, research and a quality assurance program, the paramedics at Sycamore Township are constantly looking at ways to improve the level of care and comfort that is delivered to our residents and visitors.

Do Not Resuscitate (DNR): Is Your Documentation Accurate?

DNR stands for “do not resuscitate.” A person who does not wish to have cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) performed may make this wish known through a physician’s order called a DNR order. A DNR order addresses the various methods used to revive people whose hearts have stopped functioning or who have stopped breathing. Examples of these treatments include chest compressions, electric heart shock, artificial breathing tubes and special drugs. These standardized DNR orders allow patients to choose the extent of the treatment they wish to receive at the end of life. A patient may choose to be DNR Comfort Care (DNRCC) or a DNR Comfort Care – Arrest (DNRCC-Arrest).

It is very important that the documents are completed accurately and present with the patient.

Fall Prevention

Falling is a serious health risk for people of all ages, but especially for elderly Americans over the age of 65. Sycamore Township is not immune to this type of injury. During the 1st half of 2014, the fire department responded to 442 fall incidents. Not only can these injuries be painful, they can also be expensive and have negative effects on the freedom and independence of those injured.

We have provided you with some links to obtain additional information about fall prevention and safety. Please take the time to review if you, or someone you know is at risk.
