Vial of Life Program
|
The Vial-of-Life program was started for the residents of Sycamore Township to help enhance emergency medical treatment, especially if you are unconscious or unable to communicate. The FREE vial-of-life is a plastic container that holds vital medical information about the occupants of each residence. One information sheet per each residence is to be filled out and placed in the vial (extra information sheets are available at the fire department). The vial is then kept on the top shelf of the refrigerator and a vial-of-life magnet goes on the door of refrigerator to alert the paramedics of the information. Please keep all your vital information current on the information sheets. In an emergency situation it is hard to think of everything that the emergency personnel need to know. All your vital information is recorded on the information sheet including your medical history, doctor's names and phone numbers, emergency contact person, prescription drug information, medical coverage, and hospital preference. With all the information recorded on the vial-of-life information sheet, this saves valuable time in caring for the patient. These facts are very important during a life-threatening situation. If the patient is transported to the hospital, the emergency medical personnel will take this information with them to the hospital so as not to delay treatment.

Reflective Address Signs
Visible house numbers that are easy to find and easy to read are one of the best safety features that your home or business can have. Valuable property and lives can be saved simply by posting adequate house numbers where emergency personnel can find them without wasting time. Numbers must be visible from the street, 3 inches high and contrasting in color from the house. The Sycamore Township Fire Department sells these green reflective signs for $9.00 (sign only) and $14.00 (sign & post) each. The numbers on the signs can be placed horizontally or vertically.
Sycamore Township can not install post due to liability of hitting underground wires or utilities. We can provide the post but will not install it in the ground. |
Knox Box Program
A Knox-Box is a rapid entry system offered to residents and businesses for emergency use only. Keys and vital information can be securely locked in these boxes with the Township having the only access key to open your Knox- Box. Every building equipped with a fire alarm and/or fire suppression system (excluding single-family dwellings) within the Township must provide a Knox-Box. Residents with health concerns may also purchase a residential Knox-Box to allow the Fire Department to access their home in the event of an emergency.
